I'm Miri Josefina, a documentary photographer and creative based between Phoenix, AZ and Tena, Ecuador. I've been a student of photography for 12 years and counting. I've created, critiqued, consulted, styled, and directed. I shoot digital and film. I hope to never stop experimenting, learning, and developing through art.
My work explores the intimacy of existing together in the face of divergence.

MIRI JOSEFINA
Photographer
Born in the Sonoran desert and raised between there and the Amazon Rainforest, since childhood, I’ve found myself surrounded by distinct world views and cultural practices, as well as rapid political and environmental changes affecting my communities. Growing up this way has profoundly shaped the way I interact with the world. I am attuned to the complexities of people, culture, and life. The intimacy between life in the face of constant divergence is what drives my spirit. It is the approach I take when I find myself behind the camera or at the point of creation.
I am from the Santu Urku community in Napo, Ecuador where I have worked with my family to preserve our language and support our youth in taking pride in our culture. I have dreams of strengthening our education and encouraging our youth to pursue bigger dreams than the limited options we believed we had.
