A Letter to the Desert

O’odham land,
You are a force they cannot ignore. I am a passing thought and a distant memory.
I was raised in this society because of necessity.
Although, it is a privilege to be born within such a violently opportunist culture,
my heart was always yearning for my ancestral lands.
You were supposed be my home away from home.
We never felt right for each other.
I knew you yearned for your people too.
